The Elk City News * BREAST CANCER SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2024 * 3B Teresa's breast cancer was found at her very first routine mam- mogram at the age of 40. She'd had no family history of it or symptoms when it was discovered in 2016. After the grueling effects of chemotherapy and radiation she can happily say she is cancer free. She wants to encourage all women to get their mammograms, the earlier the better! Janie Adams of Elk City credits an emergency gall bladder surgery for saving her life. It was a CT scan during an ER visit that detected the lump in her left breast. Although Adams was only 34 years old at the time, her cancer was initially classified as Stage 3. However, it was later discov- ered that it had metathesized into her chest wall, making it a Stage 4 cancer. Still, Adams chooses to see the good in the situation. “If it weren’t for my gall bladder attack, | wouldn't have dis- HydroVac Services, LLC covered | had breast cancer, and if | hadn't discovered the breast cancer | wouldn’t have known about the spot on my chest. So really, if it hadn’t happened the way it did - | may Directional Boring and Trenching Services not be alive today” 580-821-0803 BREAST| w ) AWARENESS CANCER * MONTH Great Plains Bank uy 2017 W.
