Community Page 6 The Elk City News, Elk City, Oklahoma Friday, August 9, 2019 Bappy 55th Anniversary! Heading West, on 140 into the beautiful Oklahoma sunset, getting closer to home my thoughts wonder... my parents, Maurice(M. G.) and Roseanna(Hyde) Horn, have seen 55 years of sunsets like the one I see before me now..the first, as a newly married couple, on Aug. 15, 1964 in Carnegie, OK. ‘The Lord blessed them with their first born, Danny, a year later and called him home on the same day ofhis birth. Then came Jimmy, fat little round faced baby. Next came Margaret, a little white headed bundle of joy. A few years later Todd entered into the world at 10 pounds... then along comes Holly, beautiful dark headed curls staring up from the bassinet. I thank God for gifting us to them every day....Daddy worked hard operating heavy equipment. Building the roads we drive on today and pushing dirt during the oil boom ofthe 80's and always grew an immaculate garden every year. Mom kept a spotless house and always looked so polished and pretty. (With four kids, Iam in awe.) and dinner at the table every night. She later opened Rose Ann's Reading Room in Elk City teach- ing children to read at the age of three. Years passed, my siblings and I grew and spread our wings... different directions and different places. the Good Lord blessed mom and dad again by sending grandchildren: Leroy, Weslee, Pearl, Nancy, Mia and Crue. And more blessings still as they await the birth oftheir first great grand baby in February. I remember only happiness in our home growing up. T'm sure there were disagreements but never was an argument heard. (Besides the occasional sibling Elk City teachers rivalry. ) mom and dad taught us to love and fear the Lord. We knelt in front of mom's old cedar chest every night and talked to Jesus and walked under the switches that hung above the door every day. They taught us in The way we should go and we have not forgotten it as we've grown older. Mom and dad make there home in Elk City. Dad still works here and there, keeps an immaculate garden and is an avid walker. Walking a couple of miles every day while most are still sleeping. Mom attend training still keeps a spotless house and still looks polished and beautiful every day. And has dinner on the table for whoever shows up every night. She has the most beautiful backyard. Like a fairy garden. Her and dad work so hard to get it just right. Again I am in awe... of both of them. If you see them around town say hi to them and ask them what their secret is to 55 years of sunsets. with much loye, Jimmy Horn, Margaret Sixkiller, Todd Horn and Holly Clausen Elk City Public Schools teachers attended training last week as part of heir professional development, including a session on first year teachers and mentor teachers.
